Have you noticed we talk a lot about dietary fat here at Nuvo Olive Oil?
Well, it’s for a good reason.
Turns out a recent, groundbreaking study has found that extra virgin olive oil can protect against breast cancer.
Breast cancer
You likely know that the incidents of breast cancer among women and even men are increasing?
Below is the reason this randomized study was performed.
“Breast cancer is the leading cause of female cancer burden, and its incidence has increased by more than 20% worldwide since 2008. Some observational studies have suggested that the Mediterranean diet may reduce the risk of breast cancer.”
The takeaway from the study
Eating a diet that is low in dietary fat may not be helpful when it comes to keeping the body well.
For good health, eat a diet abundant in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, fish and poultry, small amounts of red meat, and lots of extra virgin olive oil because it could be protective against breast cancer.
The basics of the study
This massive study worked with three groups of people.
- One group was eating a Mediterranean diet and received extra olive oil.
- Another group ate the Med Diet as well and was given extra nuts to eat.
- The third group was advised to eat low fat.
Here’s what happened:
- The olive oil group had a 68% reduction in breast cancer!
- The second Med group who ate more nuts reduced breast cancer risk by 41%.
- The third group didn’t do as well with their low-fat approach.
Diet and cancer
Most experts tell us that diet plays a very large part in health and wellness, even cancer prevention.
Of course, there are no guarantees.
However, you have a better chance of staying well by adhering to eating whole foods that your grandmother would recognize.
And, yes, including good healthy fats from reliable sources.
